Hot shooting Bears shut down McDermott and Creighton

Isaiah Austin and Brady Heslip each scored 17 points and Baylor shut down Creighton’s Doug McDermott with suffocating defense, as the Bears advanced to the Sweet 16 with an 85-55 win Sunday night in the NCAA tournament West Regional in San Antonio, TX.

Baylor earns a third trip to the Sweet 16 since 2010, while Creighton has not made to that point in the tournament since 1974.

McDermott finished with just 15 points, well off his average of 27 per game, and only had three in the first half as Baylor’s size and zone defense frustrated Creighton. Meanwhile, offensively, Baylor made their first five, three-point attempts and quickly grabbed control of the game.

Creighton ends its season with a 27-8 mark, losing in the Third Round of the NCAA Tournament for a third straight season. The 27 wins are tied for fourth-most in CU history.
