Motorcyclists might have been speeding in fatal crash

Lincoln police suspect the two men involved in a fatal motorcycle crash Sunday might have been racing.

Police report 24-year-old Petro Denysyuk rode his motorcycle off a street and into a creek, where he died at the scene.

Denysyuk and his 26-year-old friend Sergey Kapliyev were riding north on South Folsom Street late Sunday afternoon when Kapliyev lost control of his motorcycle, forcing both riders to miss a sharp curve and leave the roadway.

Kapliyev crashed just short of the creek. Police report he broke several bones, including his pelvis. The injuries are not consider life-threatening.

Both men wore helmets. Neither appeared to have been drinking or taking drugs. Investigators are trying to determine if they were speeding.
