After 50 years of service, La Vista volunteer firefighters answered their last call. Tuesday morning La Vista merged with the Papillion Fire Department.
Papillion Fire Chief Bill Bowes says they have 51 full time paid firefighters on the department and they will be staffing the two fire stations in La Vista 24/7. Chief Bowes believes response times will be much quicker.
The merger means the fire department will be serving 60,000 people in both communities and in surrounding rural areas.
