A top officer at the United States Strategic Command in Omaha who gambled with counterfeit poker chips at a casino in Iowa has been reprimanded and fined for violating the military code of conduct.
Rear Adm. Timothy Giardina will be allowed to remain on duty as a Navy staff officer.
Giardina served as deputy commander of STRATCOM with responsibility for nuclear forces when he used the counterfeit chips last summer. A Navy criminal investigation could not determine with certainty how Giardina obtained the chips.
The Navy, in a statement, said Giardina accepted what the military calls “non-judicial punishment” that included the $4,000 fine.
