The Belhaven softball team (42-15) picked up a victory in their first game of the NAIA Opening Round Tournament on Monday with a 16-1 rout of Bellevue University (35-16) in Shawnee, OK.
Bellevue’s Taylor Mohler was on the wrong end of nine Belhaven hits over her 2.1 innings of work. Combined with four walks, Mohler was tagged for nine runs before Kelli Fisher came on in relief and surrendered another eight runs over the final 2.2 innings.
The Bruins face Concordia at 3 p.m. this afternoon after a 4-3 loss to St. Gregory’s. A three-run sixth inning was the difference as St. Gregory’s rallied after two outs with a runner on third, trailing 2-1. A wild pitch tied the game and a two-run homer put the host team on top for good.
