President Obama recently signed the Water Resources Reform and Development Act which provides protection for many Nebraskans. This legislation prioritizes the Western – Sarpy Clear Creek Flood Control Project and John Winkler, General Manager of the Papio – Missouri River Natural Resources District says this provides protection for those on both sides of the Platte River in Sarpy and Saunders Counties.
This project will protect 443 homes and buildings, 17,730 acres of farm land as well as major well and drinking water pipelines for Lincoln and Omaha. The project is about 75% complete. The project began following severe flooding in 1993.
Federal funding totaling $2.9-million has been secured to complete the project by the fall of 2015.
