The Omaha Storm Chasers had a late rally fall short in a 6-5 loss to the Iowa Cubs at Werner Park.
The Storm Chasers jumped on Iowa Starter Ryan Williams with two runs in the bottom of the first but Williams settled down and retired 19 of the final 22 batters he faced.
“We had a chance in the first inning to really do some damage”, said Omaha manager Brian Poldberg. “We had him on the ropes and let him off.”
Catcher Tony Cruz had a two run double in the bottom of the ninth as the Storm Chasers made a run.
“Down four in the ninth and we had the go ahead run at the plate so these guys battled back and we had a chance to win.”
The teams close their series with an 11:05 a.m. contest this morning at Werner Park.
