Costco is moving forward with plans for a new chicken processing plant in Dodge County. Earlier this year Nickerson’s town board voted against the plant being built in their area. Fremont Mayor Scott Getzschman says they were not going to let this opportunity slip away and worked with Costco to find another suitable location.
Getzschman says, “This is an exciting process for Fremont. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. In my opinion we were extremely lucky to get another opportunity to be able to take the time and help them find a second location.”
Getzschman says this really indicates that Costco wants to be here. He says this region is exactly where Costco wants to be and this new location will serve them well. The proposed site is Hills Farm south of Cloverly Road.
Costco filed a petition and Getzschman says that includes re-zoning and annexation. The plant is about a $180-million investment for Costco. The plant will create 1,100 new jobs
