A former University of Nebraska-Kearney professor has been convicted of possessing child pornography.
U.S. District Judge Richard Kopf found Joseph Benz guilty of possessing more than 20,000 images on his computer, including images of babies being sexually assaulted. Kopf heard testimony for three days in the case, which centered on Kopf’s activity in 2013.
An investigator for the Attorney General reported Benz had images and videos on electronic devices at his home, mostly of young girls.
Benz was suspended from UNK in May of 2013. He resigned in 2015. He had been at UNK since 1989.
He is scheduled to be sentenced in September.
