Two Iowa residents were killed, another critically injured, in an early morning crash in extreme northeastern Nebraska.
The driver of the vehicle, 45-year-old Christopher Cox of Council Bluffs, Iowa, survived. He told Dakota County Sheriff’s deputies as he swerved to avoid a deer the vehicle went over an embankment and landed in a creek on the side of U.S. Highway 20 near Jackson.
Killed in the crash were two passengers, 57-year-old Connie Fauzae and 9-year-old Espionza Lara, both of Council Bluffs.
Another passenger, 10-year-old Jose Lara of Council Bluffs, was flown from the scene to a hospital in Sioux City. He is on life support.
The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office reports deputies responded to the scene at 3:30am Thursday.
