A 10-year-old Iowa boy critically injured in a one vehicle accident in extreme northeastern Nebraska in the early morning hours of Thursday has died.
The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office reports Jose Lara died Thursday evening at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux where he was taken in wake of the crash that killed his grandmother and sister.
The driver of the vehicle, 45-year-old Christopher Cox of Council Bluffs, Iowa, survived the crash and told deputies he had swerved to miss a dear, lost control of the car, it cleared an embankment, and landed in a creek on the side of U.S. Highway 20 near Jackson.
Dead at the scene were two passengers, 57-year-old Connie Fauzae and 9-year-old Espionza Lara, both of Council Bluffs.
Jose Lara was flown from the scene to Sioux City where he remained on life support until Thursday evening.
The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office reports deputies responded to the scene at 3:30am Thursday.
Cox has been arrested and could be charged in connection with the deaths. He is being held in the Dakota County Jail on $30,000 bond.
