News continues to pour out of Orlando after the terrorist attack over the weekend at a night club that claimed dozens of lives. The tragedy especially impacted the LGBT community. Christina Arellano is the president of Heartland Pride in Omaha and says there is a level of fear and concern.
Arellano says, “There is a level of that. It is hard not to especially in any time of leadership position when you are trying to unite a community. I probably fear more for my community and my family than I do myself. My community and family, of course there is fear when tragedies like this happen especially when they are targeted toward a group of human beings you belong to.”
Arellano says Gay PRIDE month activities planned for this coming weekend will not change. The Transforming the Heartland Pride Festival will be held at Stinson Park at Aksarben Village at 67th and Center in Omaha as planned on Saturday. The parade is set to start at 10 a.m. Saturday morning and will be held in the downtown area of Council Bluffs, Iowa.
