Families can travel back in time starting today along the Missouri River in Omaha. Gregory Schmidt is the producer of the Nebraska Renaissance Faire & Midlands Pirate Festival through Sunday at Millers Landing in Omaha and says visitors will be in for a spectacular show featuring a spectacular armored combat league.
Schmidt says, “We will have Omaha’s few national sports teams, the Omaha Ravens. They are part of the armored combat league. They will be out there fighting competitive melees in full steel armor.”
That is just one of many events featured in the festival that includes a variety of performers, merchants and special features and shows. Schmidt says tis is really two festivals in one with the Midlands Pirate Festival sharing the space with the Nebraska Renaissance Faire.
Schmidt says, “The Missouri River had pirates on it. The Missouri River Marauders back in the early 1800’s so here we are bringing pirates back to the riverbanks again. Mostly the fantasy characters will be around like Captain Hook and Jack Sparrow along with historical pirates.”
Both festivals start today and run through Sunday.
