Oklahoma State claimed its second straight shutout win at the College World Series. Tyler Buffet gave up three hits in eight innings of work as the Cowboys edged Arizona 1-0.
“The first couple of innings I was not as sharp as I wanted to be but then around the fourth inning I felt I got some tunnel vision toward the glove and found the command that is necessary at this level”, said Buffet. “Having those guys make the plays behind me just helped everything out.”
UC- Santa Barbara survived Miami and a rain delay to stay alive. The Gauchos scored four runs in the sixth inning to eliminate the Hurricanes 5-3.
“I’m happy for our guys”, said UC-Santa Barbara coach Andrew Checketts. “Our fans and everybody is celebrating like we won the whole thing but it is hard to act like you have done it before when you have never done it before. It is the program’s first World Series win and it sure looked like it.”
Ryan Cumberland drove in two runs with a pinch hit single in the decisive sixth inning. The action resumes this afternoon ads Florida meets Texas Tech in an elimination game.
