Florida wildlife officials say they are certain they removed the alligator that killed two-year-old Lane Graves.
An alligator snatched Graves as he waded along the Seven Seas lagoon at the Grand Floridian Resort, a Disney resort in Orlando, in the evening of June 14th. His body was found the next day.
Both his parents, Matthew and Melissa Graves of Elkhorn, attempted to rescue Lane, but could not prevent the alligator from pulling the boy under the water. The Medical Examiner in Florida ruled Lane died of traumatic injuries and drowning.
Officials with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission say expert analysis led them to the alligator that killed Lane. That alligator has been euthanized.
Trappers removed six alligators from the area in which Lane was taken. No other alligator met the criteria necessary to have killed the boy.
The family held a funeral Mass Tuesday for Lane at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Elkhorn.
