Coastal Carolina is headed to the bracket championship at the College World Series. The Chanticleers held off a series of late game threats to beat Texas Tech 7-5.
“It has been an incredible experience for my coaching staff, our players, the whole nine yards”, said Coastal Carolina coach Gary Gilmore. “A lot of people thought we just wanted to come out here but I think they have shown they want to stay out here and I could not be prouder of them.”
Coastal Carolina will play TCU this evening and will need to beat the Horned Frogs twice to advance to the championship series.
Texas Tech was the last remaining national seed in the field. The Red Raiders finish the season with a record of 47-20.
“Fundamentally we were not real good today”, said Red Raiders coach Tim Tadlock. “That is probably as many extra bases we have given up the entire year.”
Action resumes this afternoon with the other championship bracket as Oklahoma State goes up against Arizona.
