Congressman Adrian Smith was a bit late for this week’s conference call with reporters, for a good reason.
“I’ve just returned from the House floor where I had the great opportunity to honor Harrison and Varedo Huwaldt for their 80th anniversary,” Smith told reporters at the beginning of his conference call. “So, they’re from Randoph, Nebraska. Every now and then, I get to have the great honor of honoring someone like that.”
Harrison and Varedo Huwaldt got married on June 21st of 1936.
Harrison served on the Randolph City Council for more than 50 years. Varedo served as organist for their church for 25 years. They now are 100 and 99, celebrating 80 years of marriage.
“It’s just a great thing to celebrate,” Smith said.
The two met on a blind date in 1935. They married a year later.
