A Colorado man was killed, two others suffered injuries, in a freak accident at a western Nebraska recreational area Sunday afternoon.
The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission reports 49-year-old Matthew Weaver of Loveland died when a large branch from a cottonwood tree snapped and fell on him and two companions at Lake Minatare State Recreation Area.
The other two, 31-year-old Daniel Randall of Bayard and 44-year-old Mark Pennell of Lakewood, Colorado, were injured. Both have been taken to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Both are listed in stable condition.
According to Game and Parks, the three were sitting at a privately-owned picnic table in an area accessible only by boat or private property.
