Two separate crashes in the Panhandle have claimed two lives.
The Nebraska State Patrol reports 55-year-old James Nelson of Harrisburg died in a rollover crash about two-and-a-half miles north of Kimball on Highway 71 in Kimball County Tuesday morning. According to NSP, Nelson died after his car left the roadway and rolled several times.
Later in the evening, a 30-year-old Wyoming man died when his pick-up collided with semi tractor-trailer on Highway 26 west of Minatare. NSP reports Wiley Cross of Torrington died in the wreck. Two of his passengers are being treated for non-life threatening injuries at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.
NSP says Cross was driving west onto Highway 26 at the L79E junction when his pick-up crashed into an eastbound semi driven by 34-year-old Clinton Fornstrom of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming. Cross died at the scene. Fornstrom was not injured.
The two deaths bring the fatality total in Nebraska this year to 102, compared to 114 at the same time a year ago.
