The growing athletic department at Northeast Community College in Norfolk gets even larger this fall when women’s soccer debuts.
Hawks coach Chad Miller has experience starting programs from scratch. He started the men’s program at Northeast and led the Hawks to a 3-14 record in their inaugural season.
“I feel like I have my feet a little bit more on the ground and little more understanding of what it is going to take”, said Miller. “Going to the women’s program from the men is a little bit of a change but I feel a lot more grounded this time.”
This is the third program Miller has started. He also started a girls program at the high school level and says while patience is needed the Hawks hope to be competitive in their first season.
Northeast competes in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference and Miller says they will find out immediately where they are at.
“Our first official game will be August 23rd against Iowa Central and they are the defending national champions. That will definitely tells us where we are at right from the start.”
