Omaha lands another U.S. Olympic trial event for the South Korea Winter Games in 2018. Wes Hall is the C-O-O of the Omaha Sports Commission and announced the curling trials will be held at the University of Nebraska – Omaha’s Baxter Arena. The trials will take place in November of 2017.
Hall says some people call it shuffleboard on ice while others refer to it is as golf on ice. It is an ice sport where you have two teams where they throw stones down a sheet of ice trying to hit a target.
There were be a lot of excitement leading up to the event. The Ak-Sar-Ben Curling Club will be hosting several events now through the trials to introduce people to the sport and hopefully draw more of an interest in this winter game. They also hope to introduce the sport in schools throughout the metro area.
