Unemployment in Nebraska held steady at 3% in June.
The Nebraska Department of Labor reports the preliminary state unemployment rate in June was unchanged from May, though each of the three metropolitan areas in the state saw a rise in the unemployment rate.
In Omaha, the unemployment rate rose from 3% to 3 ½%. The unemployment rate in Lincoln rose from 2 ½% in May to 3.1% in June. In Grand Island, the unemployment rate rose from 3% to 3.4%.
Nonfarm employment last month grew by 1,773 jobs. It has grown by 12,753 since the beginning of the year.
The sector of leisure and hospitality has demonstrated the strongest growth this year, adding 5,727 jobs. The sector of education and health services has added 4,846 jobs this year with professional and businesses services up a little more than one thousand jobs.
Leisure and hospitality had strong growth last month, adding 2,724 jobs. Mining and construction added nearly 2,000 jobs with profession and business services adding close to 1,000 jobs.
