Nebraska’s new chief medical officer, who will also hold the position of director of the Division of Public Health within the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is Dr. Thomas Williams.
Williams is the laboratory medical director and chair of the Department of Pathology for Methodist Hospital in Omaha.
He also serves as a clinical assistant professor of Pathology at the College of Medicine in the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC).
“It is a tremendous honor to join the team at the Department of Health and Human Services,” Williams said in a news release, and “to work to improve the health and well-being of Nebraskans.”
Williams holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and an M.D. from the UNMC College of Medicine.
Williams start date is November 1, 2016, and he will be paid a salary of $165,000.
