A person injured in the fiery, multiple vehicle crash Sunday on Interstate 80 in western Nebraska has been pronounced dead.
The death brings the total killed in the wreck to six.
The Nebraska State Patrol reports the Jefferson County, Colorado Coroner’s Office declared 56-year-old Terry Sullivan of Denver legally dead yesterday. Sullivan remains on life support so his organs can be donated.
Sullivan was driving a minivan in the construction zone when the accident occurred on I-80 just before noon near Brule. A semi tractor-trailer struck the rear of another minivan, driving it into Sullivan’s minivan as well as two other vehicles. Sullivan initially was taken to Ogallala Community Hospital, then flown to St. Anthony Hospital.
Five members of a Minnesota family died at the scene after their vehicle was engulfed in flames.
The truck driver, 53-year-old Tony Weekly of Baker, Florida, has been jailed in Keith County, facing motor vehicle homicide charges.
