The 55th annual National Czech Festival is underway in Wilber, Nebraska.
The ethnic festival features polka music, Czech food and music, and a National Czech Queen Pageant.
Organizer Sheryl Kastanek says dance is another main feature.
“We’re running about 100 dancers, who practice each Monday,” Kastanek says. “Just kids from three to probably 12 or so, and they work hard trying to learn little folk dances to entertain the crowds.”
Several parades will be held over the weekend and awards will honor those who contribute to their Czech heritage.
Wilber was declared the official Czech Capital of the United States by President Reagan nearly 30 years ago.
