Governor Pete Ricketts is calling for the resignation of fellow Republican Papillion State Senator Bill Kintner to resign after engaging in cybersex on a state owned computer. He states this is unbecoming of what a state senator does yet other senators have made outlandish statements on the legislative floor and others have been cited for driving while intoxicated which also carry serious implications.
Governor Ricketts says, “I hold Republicans to a higher standard because that is my party so I think we ought to be doing better than in what we represent. I think what Senator Kintner has done is going to make him ineffective with regard to how he is going to represent the people of his district and that is why he should do the right thing and resign.”
There are also rumblings of a special session to expel Kintner from office. Governor Ricketts says he is keeping in close contacts with the Speaker of the Legislature and since Senator Kintner is a member of the Legislative Branch it is up to discipline their members.
Senator Kintner’s wife Lauren Kintner works in Governor Ricketts office. Governor Ricketts says, “It is a bit of an awkward situation but I will tell you that Lauren Kintner is a top-notch professional. She is very, very good at what she does and I don’t expect this to impact the way she does her job.”
Kintner was fined one-thousand dollars and says he will not resign.
