A young defensive line is making progress according to Nebraska defensive coordinator Mark Banker. The loss of Vincent Valentine and Maliek Collins to the professional ranks after last season means some untested players will need to step up for the Huskers.
“One day we had all the zone pressures put in and in 48 snaps in the walk through we had two defensive linemen go the wrong way and that was it”, said Banker. “In the spring it looked like Moe, Larry and Curly but right now it has been pretty good.”
Banker says the key is to keep it simple as the players gain experience.
“If you are going to have a place where guys are going to be young that is the place to be. It is just see ball, get off the ball and get in your gap. That is really what it comes down to.”
The Huskers open September 3 against Fresno State.
