A 62-year-old Lincoln woman has been killed after being run over by a bicyclist.
Lincoln Police Department spokeswoman Katie Flood says Paulette Johnson was part of a group cleaning up along a Lincoln parkway when struck by the bike.
“The pedestrian was with several co-workers, picking up trash and cleaning along the trail,” Flood tells reporters during a media briefing.
Johnson was with a group of co-workers from Assurity Life picking up trash at Union Plaza on Antelope Valley Trail near downtown Lincoln when the incident occurred late Friday morning.
Flood says the bicyclist attempted to warn Johnson.
“The cyclist was approaching and saw the woman. She yelled out, ‘Hey,’ or something similar to get her attention. However, neither woman was able to take evasive action before the two collided,” Flood says.
Johnson was taken to a hospital, suffering from a head injury. She died Saturday evening.
The collision remains under investigation.
