Nebraska football coach Mike Riley says wide receivers coach Keith Williams passed a background check when he was hired last year. Williams was arrested Sunday morning in Lincoln on suspision of drunk driving after being involved in a two vehicle crash.
Williams spent three years at Tulane before joining the Husker staff. He had two prior DUI convictions.
“He went through a background check with our human resources and I know they knew of stuff and they cleared him”, said Riley.
Riley says the university will have a detailed process to handle the charge against Williams, including assessment, evaluation, intervention and/or education.
“This is obviously a big mistake, serious mistake so we will have to reevaluate.”
Police say Williams’ blood-alcohol level was at least point-15, almost twice the legal limit. Riley says they are still trying to gather all the facts and as of Monday morning he had not talked to Williams.
