One of the early surprises in fall camp has been the play of true freshman running back Tre Bryant. The native of St. Louis was a standout at Christian Brothers College High School and made some impressive runs in last week’s scrimmage.
“He exceeded my expectations a little bit with that physical run he had at the end”, said Husker running backs coach Reggie Davis. “The speed I knew about but that physical run he had at the end was a very pleasant surprise.”
The coaches will need to decide if Bryant is going to join an already deep rotation at running back or preserve a year and have him redshirt. A decision could come later this week.
“I think he has good feel and hits the hole hard with good speed”, said offensive coordinator Danny Langsdorf. “I thought he ran hard, especially at the end. He ran over a defender coming down hill on him and he scored on it. It was a great run.”
