Due to term limits, Omaha State Senator Heath Mello is not able to run for his current seat in the Legislature so he is taking a different path in politics. Mello announced this week he will run for the mayor of Omaha.
Mello says, “As a young father of two young children I obviously care an awful lot about their future and the city of Omaha. More importantly I care about the city they will inherit over the next 10 to 20 years. That has really been a focal point of mine in my time in the Legislature is focusing on the future and how it will impact my children and other children across the state.”
Mello says while in the Legislature he has talked and worked well with his constituents in south Omaha and across the state and work to try to solve the problems in the state. He wants to take that experience to the mayor’s office and build the future of Omaha.
Mello will face current Mayor Jean Stothert who also plans to run for re-election. The Primary Election is April 4th and the General Election is May 9th, 2017.
