The Concordia football team hopes experience can help the Bulldogs take the next step in the Great Plains Conference race. Vance Winter enters his eighth season as head coach with 17 starters back from last year’s team that finished 6-4.
“We feel like this is a group that has a chance to be really special”, said Winter. “We are not talking about just on the field but this is a special group of people. We are just excited about how they have meshed with our university and our football team and we are excited to get going.”
TJ Austin and Riley Wiltfong are competing at quarterback to lead an offense that returns 10 starters from last year. Winter says he may use both quarterbacks because they offer contrasting styles.
Seven starters return from a defense that ranked fifth in the country a year ago and Winter feels that group will be even better this season.
“This group plays with such high energy. They play fast but make very few mistakes.”
Concordia opens at home on September 3 against the University of Saint Mary of Kansas.
