Chainsaws are getting a workout today after Tuesday night’s powerful storms in and around the Omaha metro area. Jessica James lives near 43rd and Ellison Street and says four of her trees were knocked down.
James says, “First we were woken up by trees going down in the back yard. They hit the windows and I thought that wasn’t thunder. Then I heard the trees popping in the front yard and thought that definitely isn’t thunder.” James has four trees down in her yard alone. Dozens of others are reporting similar issues.
At one point more than 21,000 Omaha Public Power District customers were without power as the storm rolled through. Several Omaha schools were canceled today due to power outages. A number of flights at Eppley Airfield in Omaha were diverted to other locations due to the severe storm.
