Nebraska offensive coordinator Danny Langsdorf will call plays from the press box on Saturday night when the Huskers open the season against Fresno State. After spending last season on the sidelines Nebraska head coach Mike Riley says Langsdorf and offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh will coach from upstairs.
“I think that being new last year it was a good thing for everybody for them to be available on the sidelines”, said Riley. “I have contended all along that it is nicer to have everything kind of laid out and you are in a contained environment so I think this will be a good move for us.”
Senior quarterback Tommy Armstrong says he favors the move.
“It goes a lot with trust of the quarterbacks and trusting the team that he is able to go up there”, said Armstrong. “I think it will help us a lot by seeing the bigger picture from up top.”
Armstrong admits he is going to miss the sideline celebrations he had with Langsdorf after Husker touchdowns.
“We always used to have times when we celebrated and he gets excited about that.”
