The University of Nebraska Medical Center and Purdue Pharma L.P. announced a new partnership Wednesday to advance graduate education and scientific research that could lead to new drug therapies. Dr. Jennifer Larsen is the Vice Chancellor for Research at UNMC and says the new alliance will help close the gap between academic research and drug development.
Dr. Larsen says, ““By having partnerships with investigators who are in the industries, it’s another way of increasing our capacity and hopefully speeding the ability of taking some of our intellectual property to commercialization.” She adds the partnership also signifies a commitment to identify strategies for understanding pain and developing new approaches or therapies for pain that avoid substance abuse.
The partnership kicked off today at UNMC with officials from both entities attending a scientific symposium. As part of the long-term partnership, several symposiums will be held annually. Each will have a different theme and will create opportunities for scientific exchanges and interaction between both organizations.
