An 88-year-old Omaha man died in a collision at an intersection in Omaha this weekend in which is appears a drunk driver ran a red light and hit his car broadside.
The Omaha Police Department reports Everts Sibbernsen died in the wreck, which left two others in the car injured.
53-year-old Kenneth Williams, Jr. of Omaha has been booked into the Douglas County Jail, charged with felony motor vehicle homicide. Police report he showed signs of impairment from alcohol and drugs.
Omaha police say the accident occurred Saturday evening shortly before 7:30. Sibbersen was riding in the backseat of the car. It drove into the intersection of I Street and 120th Street. A pick-up driven by Williams appears to have run a red light, hitting the driver side of the car. Sibbernsen died shortly after arriving at CHI Creighton University Medical Center. The driver of the car, 66-year-old Thomas Sullivan of Omaha is being treated at CHI Bergan Mercy Medical Center. Another passenger, 81-year-old Beverly Sibbernsen of Omaha, is being treated at CHI Creighton.
