Two Omaha police officers are on administrative leave pending the outcome of a investigation Sunday morning near Creighton University. At 6:09 a.m., a man identified as 26 year old Kody Conley was standing at the intersection near 24th and Cuming Streets when he pointed a handgun and fired at two occupied vehicles at a red traffic light. One of the vehicles was struck three times and the second vehicle twice. The occupants inside were not injured. Police say it appears that Conley shot at the two vehicles without provocation. A portion of the shooting was caught on surveillance video.
Omaha police were sent to that area and arriving officers spotted Conley on foot near 28th Plaza south of Burt Street. Conley again ran east and crossed street heading toward Creighton University. Several Omaha officers caught up to Conley as he ran into a corridor on the south side of the science building.
When officers confronted Conley he was still armed with the handgun. Two officers fired shots at Conley hitting him several times. He was rushed to a hospital where he is now in stable condition.
A .22 caliber handgun was found at the scene. The revolver had been reported stolen earlier this year.
