Nebraska takes a number-20 national ranking into its Big Ten opener at Northwestern. The Huskers are 3-0 after knocking off nationally ranked Oregon but this will be the first road test for coach Mike Riley’s team.
“I think one of the hardest things about the road sometimes can be just the focus”, said Riley. “The more you can keep it normal but most important is the mind set of your players that it really doesn’t matter.”
Northwestern enters the league race with a record of 1-2 after a victory over Duke. The Wildcats beat the Huskers 30-28 in Memorial Stadium last season and the recent history in this series has featured close games. Four of the last five games have been decided by three points or less.
“They have been like 4-0 playing us and 0-4 and now they are 1-2 but we still get the same Northwestern team that is tough as nails and well coached”, said senior offensive lineman Sam Hahn. “They just flat play us tough.”
Kickoff at Ryan Field is 6:30 p.m. The game will be carried by the Big Ten Network.
