The requests for early voting ballots hit a record in Douglas County Monday.
Douglas County Election Commissioner Brian Kruse says, “42,000 is a phenomenal record. In 2012, on the first day they sent out 33,000 and we are projecting 80,000 ballots by mail this election.”
Kruse says there are a couple of dates that voters should remember. He says on Tuesday, October 11th, people can start voting early in person at election offices. Those wanting to request a ballot by mail can do so until October 28th. That is also the final day people can register to vote. All the ballot drop boxes are now open in Douglas County including a new drive-up box at the election office at 115th and Davenport.
The Sarpy County Election Commission reported mailing over 16,750 ballots to voters. That shattered all previous records for this time in an election season. On the same date four years ago they had 9,00 applications processed.
