Despite battling several injuries Nebraska’s offensive line helped pave the way for 203 yards of rushing in a 31-16 victory over Illinois and one of the reasons is the play of walk-on Cole Conrad. The sophomore replaced David Knevel in the first half against the Illini. Knevel was having difficulty with a lingering ankle injury.
“It was pretty fast but you always have got to be ready”, said Conrad. “Guys go down and when your number gets called you have got to fill those roles so that is what I did.”
The native of Fremont played at Archbishop Bergen says a lot of people locally questioned his decision to walk on at Nebraska.
“Some guys from opponents were saying I will never play”, added Conrad. “That kind of motivated me and I worked even harder.”
