A man has apparently died from an anhydrous ammonia leak in northeastern Nebraska.
The Burt County Sheriff’s Office reports it received a call Monday night complaining about an anhydrous smell approximately eight miles north of Tekamah.
Tekamah Fire and Rescue responded to the call. The area surrounding the leak was evacuated.
Shortly afterward, a call made to Burt County 911 advised that a man was down near the area of the reported anhydrous smell. The Nebraska State Patrol Hazmat team along with the Tekamah Fire and Rescue crew reached the man and pronounced him dead.
Magellan Midstream Partners, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, has confirmed a leak occurred in an eight-inch pipe near Tekamah. The cause of the leak is under investigation.
