Winter has returned to Nebraska with much of the state in weather advisories or warnings.
The Nebraska Department of Roads is out in force as the snow continues to fall. Highway Maintenance Superintendent Jim Laughlin says it is important to remember safety especially if you find yourself behind one of the big plow trucks.
Laughlin says, “With our big snow plows, they have a lot of blind spots around them and traffic tends to crowd them. If you see a snow plow out on the highway it is best to give them a little bit of space. Typically, following a snow plow is safer than passing and getting in front where it hasn’t plowed yet.”
Laughlin says all drivers should slow down and leave plenty of space between your vehicle and the one in front of you. Other travel tips in bad weather include allowing plenty of time to reach your destination, let others know of your travel plans and what routes you intend to take and stay off the roads if at all possible.
