Green beer is flowing and cabbage is boiling as Nebraskans get ready to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day today. There is the traditional big shamrock painted outside of the Marylebone Tavern 37th and Leavenworth Street in Omaha and is one of the most popular spots in town on March 17th. Owner Marte Mejstrik says they start preparing for the day a year in advance.
Mejstrik says, “It is something we mentally preparing for the day after this one ends for next year. What worked and what can we do to make next year better.” He says it is kind of like a wedding. You can do all the planning in the world but then wait until the day or two before the event for the real physical work begins.
Mejstrik says they brought in a shipment of about 300 cases of beer to keep up with the demand of revelers. He also hired extra staff to keep up with number of customer demand.
