Nebraska coach Mike Riley heaped praise on the Husker defense following the first scrimmage of spring drills but defensive coordinator Bob Diaco says it is just a start. Diaco has installed the 3-4 defense after joining the staff in the off-season.
“We have a long way to go and there is so much to coach”, said Diaco.
Diaco says there have been two areas of emphasis this spring. One is improving a red zone defense that ranked in the bottom half of the Big Ten and the other is limiting explosive plays in the run game.
“We work hard on fits and pursuit”, added Diaco. “Because a lot of explosive play runs are a lack of pursuit and a lack of effort.”
Nebraska’s spring game is April 15.
