Whit Merrifield collected three hits, including a homer, Jorge Bonifacio drove in four runs and starter Jonathan Dziedzic turned in nearly six frames of shutout ball as Omaha topped the Round Rock Express 9-1 in their home opener at Werner Park on Tuesday evening.
Merrifield (3-5, 2 R, HR, RBI) had one of the Storm Chasers’ two longballs on the night, along with SS Ramon Torres (1-5, R, HR, RBI). Torres broke open the scoring with a leadoff blast in the initial frame, while Merrifield’s solo blast in the sixth capped Omaha’s nine-run barrage.
Merrifield has now homered in three of his five contests with Omaha this year, including each of the last two, and leads the club with three longballs. Torres, meanwhile, has tallied hits in 23 of his last 28 matchups with Omaha dating back to 2016, including each of his last nine.
