It is the busy season for farmers as planting season is underway. Drivers will be sharing the roads with tractors and other agriculture implements now as farmers travel to and from fields. Nebraska State Patrol Trooper Kevin Chase says all drivers need to use extra caution this time of year and be ready for what may be on the other side of the hill. However, operators of farm implements also need to use extra care on the road as well.
Trooper Chase says, “They should be using their “slow moving vehicle”, the warning triangles and utilizing their flashing yellow caution lights whenever they are on the roads. When they are on the highway and they see the cars are starting to back up and if there is a shoulder, they are supposed to pull to the shoulder and let the cars, the faster moving vehicles around them.”
Trooper Chase says if drivers want to pass a piece of farm equipment, make sure they are in a passing zone and on a flat stretch of roadway. Also make sure you have enough room to safely get around these vehicles.
