Nebraska coach Mike Riley has named junior Tanner Lee as the Huskers starting quarterback. Lee transferred to Nebraska after spending two seasons as the starter at Tulane and was competing against redshirt freshman Patrick O’Brien for the job and the two signal callers shared reps with the first unit during spring.
Lee says he’s worked hard to become a leader on the team and built relationship with the whole team.
“To have that comradery and build chemistry with your teammates is important to me”, said Lee. “To have a relationship with every guy is something I focus on.”
Lee completed 13 of 19 passes for 190 yards and three touchdowns, including a 30-yard perfect spiral to freshman receiver JD Spielman, igniting the Red Team to a 14-0 lead in a lopsided game that ended 55-7.
A coin flip enabled O’Brien to start for the winning Red Team, and he finished the day completing 11 of 17 passes for 134 yards and a touchdown.
