Former Husker Alfonzo Dennard arrested days ahead of draft (AUDIO)

Nebraska’s outgoing cornerback Alfonzo Dennard was arrested after a disturbance early Saturday outside a Lincoln bar. Lincoln Police Capt. Jason Stille said the 22 year old Dennard, was arrested on suspicion of assault of a police officer, third-degree assault and resisting arrest. Dennard was held Saturday in the Lancaster County jail.

Stille said officers tried to break up a fight between Dennard and another 22 year old man outside The Hour Lounge just after 2:00 a.m. early Saturday morning. Dennard hit the man before punching an officer who tried to intervene in the head. He was arrested after a brief struggle with four officers, police said.

Courtney Love commits to Nebraska

Nebraska got the latest commitment from Cardinal Mooney High School in Youngstown, Ohio, as linebacker Courtney Love made his verbal pledge to the Huskers on Sunday. Love is the second recruit (defensive end A.J. Natter–Milton, Wis.) to commit to NU after visiting Lincoln last weekend.

The 6-foot-1, 225-pound Love will be the fifth Mooney player to join the Husker roster since Bo Pelini, a graduate of the school, has been Nebraska’s head coach. As a junior, Love made 167 tackles and eight sacks. USC, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Michigan State and Florida State were also bidding for his service.

Love is the fifth known commitment in Nebraska’s 2013 class.

Former Husker Thenarse becomes HS football coach in L.A.

Former Nebraska defensive back Rickey Thernarse may be the youngest football coach in Los Angeles. At 23, he has been named head coach at L.A. Jordan High School, where he was a standout running back, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.

He will be a walk-on coach for Jordan while trying to become a substitute teacher. Thenarse said he understands what Jordan needs in a coach. “To be the head coach at Jordan, you have to know the kids and have a relationship with them,” he said. “I feel I’m a role model, and they’ll respect me.”

Thenarse missed his final game as a senior when he was cited for a DUI in December of 2010.

Huskers get fourth recruit for 2013

Defensive end A.J. Natter, from Milton, Wis., held scholarship offers from Wisconsin, Iowa, Purdue, Minnesota, and Michigan State, but after his fourth visit to Nebraska over the weekend, he became the Huskers’ fourth commitment for their 2013 recruiting class.

“I just felt at home there, I felt comfortable and I knew Nebraska is the place for me,” Natter told HuskersOnline.com. “I didn’t necessarily know I was going to commit coming down here, but I knew it was going to be a good weekend. I had a pretty good feeling in the hotel on Friday night, came in the next morning and went into Coach Papuchis’ office and gave him the good news.

NU offers credit for Red-White tickets for next year’s game

After the cancellation of Saturday’s Red-White Spring Football Game, the Nebraska athletic says you can use those tickets toward a home Husker baseball and softball game, or they’re offering a second option by receiving credit toward next year’s spring game. You’ll need to mail your tickets in by May 1st.

The ticket office address: P.O. Box 82848, Lincoln, NE, 68501.

“We believe this is the fairest way to give fans the same value they have purchased,” Athletic Director Tom Osborne said. “We greatly appreciate the support of our fans and hope that this helps to compensate them for their purchase, effort and time. No one has a crystal ball, but we believe we made the right decision as soon as we possibly could.“
