Husker basketball picks up another transfer

University of Nebraska basketball coach Tim Miles announced Tuesday that Terran Petteway  has transferred to the University of Nebraska and joined the Husker basketball program. Petteway, who hails from Galveston, Texas, spent the 2011-12 season at Texas Tech University and will have three years of eligibility beginning with the 2013-14 season.

“We are thrilled to add Terran to our program,” Nebraska Coach Tim Miles said. “He can be a very dynamic player for us. Terran is a slashing wing player who is very athletic for his size and very good in transition. He has been well coached throughout his career and his parents are great people. I think he will be a great addition for our program.”

NU’s Kelly named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

Nebraska second baseman Pat Kelly was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the second time this season. Kelly hit .444 (8-for-18) last week in four starts with two home runs and 15 total bases. His two home runs came against Minnesota this past weekend, as the Huskers swept the Golden Gophers and moved from seventh in the Big Ten standings into a tie for fourth.

In the series opener on Friday night, Kelly hit a two-run homer that proved to be the eventual game winner in a 4-3 NU win. Kelly moved to the leadoff spot in game two of the series and was 4-for-5 at the plate. He broke a 7-7 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning on Saturday with a solo home run for an 8-7. Kelly added a double on Sunday in the Huskers 6-5 win for his 15th extra-base hit of the season. In 18 at bats for the week, Kelly struck out just one time and is currently riding an 11-game hitting streak into Tuesday’s game with Wichita State.
