Omaha Westside saw their American Legion season come to an end by the same team that knocked out Creighton Prep at the Great Plains Regional. Minnesota Burnsville, that state’s runner-up, knocked out Nebraska’s runne- up 15-5 in the championship game. Burnsville pounded out 20 hits and took advantage of four errors. The Minnesota squad scored four runs in the third, six in the fourth and five in the fifth. Westside finishes their season 44-13.
Omaha Westside had the tying runs on second and third with one out, but two strikes ended their rally, losing its opening game at the American Legion Central Plains Regional, 4-2 to Carroll County, Iowa. Chris Halbur scattered five hits and struck out nine in eight innings to lead Iowa champion Carroll County to a 4-2 win. The loss drops Westside into the loser’s bracket at 10 a.m. against West Fargo, ND.
West Fargo lost to Creighton Prep 15-4. Prep scored 14 in the first two innings. West Fargo scored four runs over the final four innings but it wasn’t enough to prevent the 10-run mercy rule from being implemented in the seventh inning. Prep will face Carroll County, Iowa today at 5 p.m.
